Wondering What to Wear?

Hi Family & Friends,

We have been hearing questions lately about what to wear to our wedding, so we want to share our thoughts with you about that. As you know, it will be a backyard wedding, so think "backyard appropriate." Here are a few guidelines that we've thought of:

  • Wear comfortable shoes! If you'd like to participate in the morning walk to the Brooklyn Promenade, you should definitely wear shoes that you can walk in without your feet hurting. Also, since most of our backyard is grassy, high heels are probably not the best choice. We'll be wearing sandals.
  • Formal attire (suit, ties, gowns) is really not necessary, unless that's what you've really got your heart set on! We're planning on wearing linen/cotton.
  • Wear something comfortable. We want everyone to be comfortable. That said, we'd prefer no jeans, t-shirts, cut-offs, bathing suits, etc. ;)
  • We will have a photographer for the morning events, so if you are planning on changing clothes between the morning ceremony and the evening party, you might want to wear your better outfit in the morning, since this is when you'll be in pictures!
Please let us know if you have any other questions!
Peace,
Tara

Just Give Charity Wedding Registry

Hi Everyone,

Only a few weeks left now! We are really looking forward to seeing all of you. Many people have asked us about gifts, so here is an update for everyone. Giving us a wedding gift is not necessary, but if you are inclined to do so, please consider giving to our Charity Wedding Registry at JustGive.org. We have chosen organizations that are meaningful to us, and we thank you for donating in honor of our wedding:

Thank you,
Tara & Skye

Dietary Needs?

Hi Everyone,

Skye and I have been busy planning the menus for both the brunch and dinner. As I am a vegan, we are both especially aware of  and sensitive to special dietary needs, and we would like to consider those in our planning. Please let us know if you have a special diet by posting a comment!

Thanks,
Tara

Ceremony & Party: Schedule of Events

Hi Everyone,

It's been awhile since we've updated our blog, but we thought that it might be helpful to let all of you know the (rough) schedule for the morning ceremony and the evening party so that you may plan accordingly:

9:30 am: Arrive at 336 DeGraw St. #1
9:30 - 10:00: Music and assembling for the ceremony
10:00 - 10:30: Ceremony (including live music, readings, and poetry)
10:30 - 11:30: Brunch in the backyard
11:30 - 1:00: Walk to the Brooklyn Promenade for pictures. Everyone is invited! (Note: It is about a 30-minute walk. Please wear comfortable shoes to the ceremony if you would like to participate!)
1:00 - 7:00: Break time. During this time, feel free to enjoy activities around Brooklyn (see our suggestions below), return to your hotel/apartment to relax and rejuvenate before the party, etc. We will be using this time to set up the backyard for the evening party.
7:00 - ????: Arrive at 336 DeGraw St. #1 for the celebratory party. There will be dinner, drinks, and music. If you are a musician, you may bring your instrument (or singing voice)! We would love to have you share your talents with us during this time.

If you have any questions about the schedule, email me (tarpey.te@gmail.com) or Skye (mrskyelar@gmail.com) anytime. We can't wait to see you on August 8th!

Peace,
Tara

Getting to BKLYN!

Hi family and friends!

People have been asking about airports, subways and the like...so here are some tips...

The airport that we typically use is JFK because it is so close to the A subway line, which makes an easy commute to our neighborhood. Here's what we usually do:

• Take the Airtrain in JFK to the Howard Beach station, pay $7 to enter the A subway line
• Take a Manhattan bound A train to Jay Street Borough Hall
• Go up the stairs and down to the other side to catch a Coney Island bound F train (do not go across the platform, otherwise you will be taking a Manhattan/Queens bound F train)
• Go one stop to Bergen Street, exit the station at the front of the train (Smith Street and Warren)
• Walk out of the subway and go right on Smith street (toward the Rite Aid) and walk a few blocks (pass Baltic, Butler, and Douglass) to Degraw street and take a right
• The building will be on your left, 336 apt #1

You can also take taxi from the airport, it typically costs $35-$40. La Guardia is a bit further, and not as accessible by public transportation. A taxi from La Guardia will be $45-$50.
